Summer Reading is Here!

Summer Reading and Learning officially starts Monday, June 17th and runs through Saturday, August 3rd.

Check out all the awesome programs we have going on this summer in our Programming Booklet and sign up on our Event Calendar.

Children and youth may participate in one prize drawing level per summer.

  • 3 year olds may be placed in the toddler or preschool category.
  • Children entering 6th grade in the fall may choose either the Summer Learning Goal Cards or the Tween and Teen program, but not both.
  • For Babies and Toddlers, we have an activity card for parents or caregivers to complete. The activities are based on best practices for adults to help their children grow ready to read.

For Preschoolers through students entering grade 6 in the fall, we have Weekly Summer Learning Goal Cards.

At the beginning of each 7 day period, the child and parent or guardian will come up with a learning goal (or goals) for the week.
These goals can be reading everyday, completing math worksheets, making your bed everyday, practicing a musical instrument, and more!

The overall program goal for our summer learning is to keep children accustomed to learning at least 5 of 7 days a week. Some goals may take multiple weeks to accomplish just as writing a school report may take longer than one week. Rather than thinking of a lack of success as a “fail” , think of F.A.I.L. as  First Attempt In Learning. One goal card may be turned in for each 7 day period.

Each completed goal card is entered into a drawing. At the end of the summer, one name will be drawn for Preschoolers, Elementary school age, and Intermediate school age. Age is determined by the grade entering in Fall 2019.

Our Tween and Teen Program is for children entering 6th – 12th grade in the fall.

Teen Summer Reading is going to be a series of challenges! If you complete any challenge, you’ll receive a ticket that will go towards our raffle for prizes! Every time you complete something on our challenge list, bring it up to the front desk for a ticket!
